Google Workspace Automation Suite

Google Workspace · Apps Script · Automation

A collection of lightweight internal tools and automations for Workspace administration, reporting and operational workflows.

The problem

Google Workspace administration and IT operations often involve repeatable steps across people, groups, data sources and external systems. Repeating those steps manually makes status harder to see and workflows harder to standardize.

Not every internal need requires a large platform. Targeted Apps Script, API and Google Sheets solutions can connect existing systems and make the routine work more visible.

The approach

This is a collection of automation patterns, not a single monolithic product: workflow orchestration, Jira reporting, Workspace inventory, notifications and scheduled operations are treated as small, purpose-built internal tools.

Each pattern uses a clear input, explicit processing and a visible result or log. The examples remain generic so the public portfolio does not disclose tenant configuration, internal workflows or client information.

My role — Automation and reporting design using Apps Script, JavaScript, Google Workspace services and REST API patterns.

Data collection. Start with authorized information from a Workspace service, a REST API or an event.

Automation modules

User lifecycle automation

  1. Input / HR data
  2. Validate user
  3. Create or update account
  4. OU / groups / access
  5. Result logging

Apps Script can orchestrate Workspace-related onboarding, updates and operational workflows around a clear input and reviewable result.

Key engineering decisions

  • User lifecycle orchestration
  • Jira reporting
  • Workspace inventory
  • Notifications
  • Scheduled operations

Switch to the technical view for the engineering trade-offs behind these.

Challenges & limitations

  • Each automation pattern is illustrative and must be adapted to the authorized APIs, data model, scopes and review process of the organization using it.
  • The public site shows no credentials, endpoint URLs, tenant identifiers, employee information or live operational records.
  • Not every Google Workspace capability is exposed by the same API or suitable for the same automation pattern; supported coverage should be validated per use case.

What I learned

The most practical internal automations are usually the ones that make a repetitive process explicit, connect the systems already in use and leave a visible outcome for the next person to review.
